Enabling Cookies for our websites

Introduction

Many people are okay with the general allowing of cookies, but there are some people who wish not to allow some sites or a majority of sites to put cookies on their machine (computer) for whatever reason.  Because of this the main browsers (IE, Chrome and Firefox) allow for you to select specific sites you want or don't want cookies from.  This guide will show you how to set up to allow cookies for the websites that you want to accept them from.

Open up your browser and go to Tools > Options.

Go to the Privacy tab.

Set the 'Firefox will:' option to 'Use custom settings for history'.

Uncheck Accept cookies from sites.

Click on 'Exceptions..."

In the 'Address of website:' type in the website's URL you want to accept cookies from.  In this case it is

http://www.curse.com/

Then click 'Allow'.

Repeat steps for adding in the address for all the sites you wish to allow.

www.curse.com

Do not include the http:// to the address.

You can set exceptions for an entire domain, insert [*.] before the domain name:

[*.]minecraftforum.net

which will also include http://servers.minecraftforum.net .  You can also specify an IP address, an IPv6 address, or a non-http URL

It should now show the site you wish to allow cookies from.

Repeat steps for adding in the address for all the sites you wish to allow.

Internet Explorer Restrict to Selective Sites

Click on the cog icon > Internet Options.

Go to the Privacy tab.

Set the setting to High or above

Click on the 'Sites' button.

In the 'Address of website:' type in the website's URL you want to accept cookies from.  In this case it is

http://www.curse.com/

Then click 'Allow'.

It should now show the site you wish to allow cookies from.

Repeat steps for adding in the address for all the sites you wish to allow.

This process is of the current browsers and may change with future versions, but both past and current browser versions are very similar in how to set these up once you find the location of the settings panel.  For more information on setting up cookies for specific browsers please check out the browser's website.
